Join us for a tour through the Public Health film archives to find out what health advice was REALLY like in mid-20th century Britain, and just how far we have come in our understanding of disease prevention and treatment.
We will be showing a series of public health films shown from 1942-1968, looking at issues ranging from obesity and smoking to vaccinations. Alongside the films, our panel of medical researchers and science historians will be discussing just how much has changed, helping us to sift the fact from the fiction, and the daft from the downright dangerous. SciScreen – Inception: The science behind the video effects and story.
Science London presents “Inception: The science behind the video effects and story”.
Science London presents a one off screening of the multi-oscar winning movie Inception. The movie uses cutting edge video effects to explore various levels of psychology of dreams. After the movie screening there will be a question and answer session featuring a expert from Double Negative, the video effects house responsible for the amazing video effects.
Date: Thursday 20th October
Time: 7pm, the screening will start at 7.30pm, the event will end by 11pm

SciScreen: The End Of The Line
A Special The End of the Line screening followed by a discussion with the director.
Science London and Portobello Pop Up Cinema are pleased to present a special screening of the award-winning documentary film The End of the Line, followed by a rare chance for viewers to take part in a discussion with director Rupert Murray on Sunday 10th October.
The End of the Line shows us first hand the effects of our global love affair with fish as food. Narrated by Ted Danson and based on the book by Charles Clover, it explores the devastating effect that overfishing is having on fish stocks and the health of our oceans. Scientists predict that if we continue fishing at the current rate, the planet will completely run out of fish by 2048.

An exciting film workshop hosted by Science London (the British Science Association’s Central London branch), in partnership with STK International Airport and Transition Towns. We will be screening ‘Who Killed the Electric Car?’ and ‘In the Shadow of the Moon’ to explore the possibilities of human endeavour through discussion, comedy and re-enactment!
